Tyrie James and AJ Moody announced as Maine Mr. Basketball Semifinalist

Windham Duo Named Mr. Maine Basketball Semifinalists

Windham High School seniors A.J. Moody and Tyrie James have been named semifinalists for the 2026 Mr. Maine Basketball Award, an honor given annually to the top senior basketball players in the state. The announcement, made in early February, recognizes ten standout student athletes whose performance, leadership, and impact on their programs have separated them among Maine’s best.

Joining Moody and James on this year’s semifinalist list are Nolan Ames (Camden Hills), Owen Corrigan (Caribou), Parker Morin (Cony), Mason Nguyen (Medomak Valley), Dylan Gendron (Sanford), Reece MacDonald (York), Akol Maiwen (Edward Little), and Andrew Oliver (Mattanawcook). From this group, finalists will be selected, with the winner announced at the McDonald’s Senior All Star Banquet in March.

For Windham, having two players represented on this list is a significant moment for the program and a reflection of the culture that has been built over the past several seasons. Moody and James have been central to Windham’s success, helping lead the Eagles through one of the most successful stretches in program history. Their impact has extended well beyond the box score, setting daily standards for work ethic, preparation, and leadership.

James has consistently been one of the most dynamic players in the state, capable of impacting the game in scoring, rebounding, and playmaking. His ability to take over games while elevating the players around him has made him a cornerstone of Windham’s identity.

Moody has been the definition of toughness and versatility. Known for his defensive presence, basketball IQ, and ability to impact winning in countless ways, he has been a steady force for the Eagles throughout his career. His leadership and character have also made him a role model for younger players in the program and the Windham community.

What makes this recognition even more special is the shared journey of Moody and James. Having grown together as players and teammates, their selection as semifinalists is a testament to years of commitment, sacrifice, and belief in something bigger than themselves.

The Mr. Maine Basketball Award represents more than individual performance. It recognizes complete student athletes who have made lasting impacts on their teams, schools, and communities. Moody and James embody those qualities and continue to represent Windham Basketball with pride.

As the season continues, this recognition adds another chapter to their legacy, one built on consistency, brotherhood, and a commitment to doing things the right way.
